Steamed Gai Lan with Oyster Sauce, from the new Chin Chin cookbook. Like the Salmon in Banana Leaf from my previous post, this was delicious and really easy to make. Loved them both together too. Click the pic for the recipe.

Meet Thomas
Image
Even though I grew up riding, it’s been a long time since I was in the saddle. Eight years to be exact. I’ve been wanting to get back in to it but never knew where to go until a friend told me about the Helensville Riding School. I had my first lesson and absolutely loved it. Thomas was so placid and well behaved it was easy to concentrate on what I was learning without having to worry about his temperament. In my first lesson I learnt to correct my posture during trotting, better hand control, to move sideways by squeezing Thomas with one leg and to pivot 180° with his front hooves staying in the same spot. I had the best time and have booked another lesson for next week. I can’t wait to update what I’ve learnt each time and I seem to be getting a great leg workout to boot.
What I’m Reading

After “Valley of the Dolls” I thought I’d hang around the same subject matter with my next read. I’m sure David Mamet will provide a slightly different view of what happens behind the scenes in Hollywood. But, there’s only one way to find out…. I’ll get started tonight. There’s a lot of storms and rain forecast for the next week which should help get me though it.
Zuni Fetishes

I love collecting Zuni fetishes. Bear is the guardian fetish of the West. He represents strength and self-knowledge and is a spiritual guide who also has supernatural powers. Bear is a powerful healing fetish. I don’t necessarily believe in this, but I don’t necessarily not believe in it either. 😉
Time to take a Soma holiday, in book form.

Can’t wait to get in to this. I love the cover too. I’ve decided I’m only going to buy hard copies of books with great covers, the rest can go on my Kindle. Like Karl Lagerfeld says, “No more ugly books.”
Relax your mind

I just got this in the mail. Amis is one of my favourite authors and I’m totally obsessed with Peter Mendelsund’s cover. It seems so indulgent to curl up with a book, I’m going to start going to bed a bit earlier so I can fit it in.
Zuni Fetishes

Zuni Fetishes are believed to have inherent powers or qualities that may aid the owner. This lovely Corn Maiden represents strength, creation and wisdom. I hope even a little rubs off on me.
